  1. Are our work based learning students "Workforce Ready" upon graduation? 

  2. Should we be "certifying our students that they are workforce ready?

  3. What actions should we initiate in our schools?  Advisory Boards?

Panel of human resource managers will discuss the skills needed to be workforce ready.

Are Our WBL Students Financially Literate?

a.       What should our work-based learning students know about financial literacy?

b.      Is it our responsibility to deliver this knowledge and skill?

student provided by the NEFE Financial Literacy Program.

Legal Issues related to the conduct of employers, guest speakers and advisory board members.

a.       Who are we placing are students with?  Do we really know the behavior and actions our employers will demonstrate to our students?

b.      Whom are we inviting into our classroom as speakers or mentors?  What will these adults say or do?

c.       Why do adults join our advisory boards?  Is there a hidden reason that could be detrimental to our students?

What could go wrong?  How can you prevent possible problems?

21st Century Work-based learning Coordinator

Learn how to communicate with your work-based learning students using the resources of Google.

Hands on instruction will be given for establishing a Google account, setting up an iGoogle Dashboard and then using Google Docs for collaboration of resume writing and accumulation of work experience hours.

The number of private sector jobs on Long Island increased over the year by 2,400, or 0.2 percent, to 1,088,000 in June 2008, a new record for the month. The following sectors added jobs over the year: educational and health services (+5,700), leisure and hospitality (+2,200), natural resources, mining and construction (+700) and other services (+400). Employment losses occured in: financial activities (-2,600), manufacturing (-2,000), trade, transportation and utilities (-1,100), professional and business services (-600) and information (-300). Government employment rose (+4,300) over the year. The Island's 4.7 percent unemployment rate in June was up from 4.6 percent in May and up from 3.6 percent in June of 2007. This was the highest unemployment rate for the month of June since 2003.
